First Take — Clean Energy Tax Credits Still Available, But Some Not For Long

Climate Changemakers and The Climate Reality Project have teamed up to create some great action items and resources focused on taking advantage of Clean Energy Tax Credits passed during the Biden Administration as part of the most important climate legislation ever in US history.
However, because the Trump Administration and Republicans in Congress recently passed legislation to gut these programs, for some of the tax incentives time is very short to take advantage of them.
As you can see below, this is the case for individuals purchasing new and used electric vehicles that qualify, which must be done by September 30th, a few short weeks away. For homeowners, the deadline is December 31, 2025 to purchase heat pumps, water heaters, rooftop solar, battery story, energy efficiency upgrades and EV chargers that qualify.
Local businesses, nonprofits, schools, and local governments have more time. See the deadlines above, but pay attention to those marked with an asterisk, as new restrictions will go into place on December 31 that will make it more difficult.
